Current model SmartCarbs are designed to replace Keihin PE, PJ, PWK and Mikuni VM and TM series carburetors of similar sizes. Applications for which we have confirmed fitment and baseline settings for are selectable in the Get Equipped tool on the Shop page. If you don’t see your application in the Get Equipped tool and have questions about fitment, installation, or compatibility, please contact us.
SmartCarbs are currently offered with single cable, top-pull throttling in 26, 28, 36, 38, and 40mm sizes. More sizes will become available over time.
We are still in development of dual cable, side-pull throttled SmartCarbs for direct fitment into modern 4-stroke applications. The top-pull throttled SmartCarbs currently available may be used in 4-stroke applications, however we ask that you contact us for more specific information and help regarding potential fitment issues.

Yes, throttle position sensing or TPS is an available add-on to any 36, 38, and 40mm size SC2 model SmartCarb. TPS is recommended for applications using 3D ignition mapping, Beta 2-stroke motorcycles with oil injection, and applications using aftermarket ECUs with advanced mapping features.
That depends on a few factors. Many owners choose to take their SmartCarbs from one application to another over time or when upgrading. Please contact us for assistance with compatibility, fitment, and tuning baselines for any application to which you wish to move your SmartCarb.
General
INSTALLATION/TUNING
Both the SmartCarb and the Lectron share the same flat slide, metering rod carburetor concept and both were designed and inspired by the same inventor. The SmartCarb comprises a decades newer design that improves upon the shortfalls and limitations of earlier designs, including the Lectron. For more information on their shared history and how they compare, check out our SmartCarb vs Lectron article.
We recommend replacing size for size in most cases, though there are some notable exceptions. Some applications can work with multiple sizes depending on your performance goals. We are available to answer any sizing related questions you may have, please contact us with questions.
Our six (6) month warranty against manufacturing and workmanship defects applies to all SmartCarbs and kit components purchased new. For more information about our warranty policies and satisfaction guarantee, see the Orders & Returns page.

Please contact us directly if you think you need a different metering rod. We are able to advise you on selection and baseline settings.
Yes, you can, however, there are a few things to consider. Contact us for more information.
We have no hard recommendations on oil selection or ratio to mix at, however, we may make suggestions. Using a high quality synthetic oil at a reasonable ratio for the given application is advised.
Depending on the nature of the modification we may suggest alternative settings or changing the metering rod in certain cases. Contact us for more advice specific to your needs.
SmartCarbs are built to last, however basic maintenance is required to keep them performing optimally. We recommend a thorough cleaning annually and the replacement of service parts as needed every few years. Cleaning instructions and more detailed maintenance requirements are available in your user manual (link to Tech Support page displaying user manuals) and rebuild kits containing all service parts are available.
While all SmartCarbs ship with float bowl drains for easy draining and float level troubleshooting, we recommend leaving fuel in the SmartCarb when stored away. Please use a fuel stabilizer when doing so and drain the carb and tank and replace with fresh fuel when running the engine again. Leaving the SmartCarb to fully dry out over a long period of time can cause premature wear (shrinking or hardening) of the o-rings and gasket components.

What to Expect
The SmartCarb is a high performance fuel system that will increase horsepower and torque throughout the entire throttle range. You can expect more power delivered more linearly due to the SmartCarb’s single circuit fueling and variable venturi throttle rate. Properly tuned, the bottom end throttling is best described as being crisp, clean, and responsive with a smooth, linear transition through the mid into a forceful top end, extending the power-band a further 500-600 useable RPMs. We guarantee 10% more peak power compared to the stock fuel system.
On average SmartCarb users should expect a 30% increase in fuel economy compared to the stock fuel system in the same conditions (riding style, speed, terrain, elevation, etc). Oil injected Beta customers can expect a 40% increase in fuel economy.
Making adjustments to your SmartCarb is very easy and takes just seconds. All adjustments are made by hand and without tools. Tune while the engine and pipe stay hot!
No adjustments are required for air density factors. Should you change fuel composition while traveling to varying elevations then yes a small clicker adjustment may be warranted. Additionally you will learn that the power delivery characteristics can be modified by adjusting the clicker for optimal power delivery in varying terrain (slick, dry, rocky, etc).
The SmartCarb is extremely durable. The body components are CNC machined out of high grade aluminum and the throttle slide is hard coated with a Teflon anodize to resist wear. Consistent cleaning and replacement of service parts will keep your SmartCarb performing excellently for years.
